Biography for I2SG:
Interests:The I2SG SELF-BUILDER There are many reasons why amateurs enjoy building their own equipment. Self- building radio amateurs have always grow the experimentation of new circuits, the acquisition of new skills, the satisfaction that comes from the creation of something innovative and useful, together with saving money. For some, including the author, there is also a strong aesthetic pleasure from the design and construction of a unique equipment, without compromise and that cannot be purchased commercially. All self-builder radio enthusiasts, no matter how skilled or experienced they are, quickly learn that there is no design that cannot be improved and no level of processing that cannot be carried out more carefully. Since perfection is always out of reach, each new project represents an irresistible challenge to improve one's skills and advance the state of the art. This spirit of innovation has infused radio hams since its early days, more than a century ago, and is still alive and well today in the few self-building amateurs still alive. Few, because there is a lack of young people that the modern world, primary school and university, have shaped to commercial or planetary interests, immersing them in a bubble of presumed knowledge and skill. But this bubble could explode for natural events such as geomagnetic inversion of poles, gamma- bursts from catastrophic celestial events, gigantic and lasting solar flares or irreversible climatic upheavals, exposing the nullity of real or presumed knowledge, together with individual and collective abilities. The author obtained the second class license in 1960 (with telegraphy at 60 car./minute) enabling operation of station up to 150W with I1SG calls-sign, 3 years later he obtained the third class for radio station up to 300W and then with the new P.T. Rules the call-sign became I2SG. Today it is sporadically active in micro-wave bands and HF. He has worked in the following companies: GTE-Lenkurt, Rohde & Schwarz, Fairchild, SGS,SGS Thomson in Europe and in silicon valley in California. Former company manager, the activity carried out was in the following areas: analog multichannel telephony, instrumentation with vacuum tubes and discrete semiconductors, study of solid state physics and semiconductor crystals, development of linear integrated circuits and related production processes. He was a member and vice-president of A.R.I. (Italian Amateur Radio Association) Bands: 40 meters, 20 meters, 10 meters, 23 cm Activities: Kit building, QRP Operating: CW, Microwave, SSB Equipment: Antique/collector radios, Boatanchors, Computers, Construction of equipment, Homebrewed equipment, Linear amplifiers, Military radios, Power supplies, Restoring equipment, Station accessories, Straight Keys, Test equipment, Transceivers, Transistors, Vacuum tubes Antennas/Propagation: Antenna tuners, Dish antennas, Loop antennas, Mobile antennas, SWR measurement, Wattmeters, Wire antennas Organizations you are interested in: ARRL, IARU, ITU |
